In 2016 the Manitou Council secured grant funding to remove the dam on the Mullet River at Camp Evelyn.  The Sheboygan River Basin Partnership (SRBP) donated $5,000 toward the engineering and permitting work to support the removal of the Camp Evelyn Dam.  After removal, sediment stored upstream of the dam began to stabilize, with some sediment moving downstream and benefiting areas below the dam previously “starved” of sand and soil particles needed for insects and other aquatic invertebrates’ micro habitat.  SRBP assisted in the process of shaping, seeding, and planting to further stabilize the banks of the river.  Now, the Mullet River has emerged as a much healthier ecosystem for trout and other cold-water organisms as a result of the dam removal.
