Friends of North Point (FONP) is a neighborhood-led group dedicated to restoring, preserving, and protecting the vital bluff community by raising awareness of its ecological value through educational outreach. FONP has received recognition and support from Bird City Wisconsin, as this unique bluff community is critical to the Lake Michigan Migratory Bird Flyway. The group was one of the first to commit to the City of Sheboygan’s recently established Adopt-a-Park program, ensuring the long term care of North Point Park.
The restoration of North Point Bluff is a collaboration between the Sheboygan River Basin Partnership, Friends of North Point, Lakeshore Natural Resource Partnership, City of Sheboygan, and Stantec Consulting Services. Lakeshore Natural Resource Partnership facilitated the development of a Restoration Plan and secured funding to support this restoration strategy, which is being implemented over the course of several years through a phased approach. Restoration activities include the removal of invasive shrubs and trees, installation of native seed, plugs, shrub and tree species, and green stormwater infrastructure design and installation. This project is supported with funding from the Sheboygan County Stewardship Fund, US Fish and Wildlife Service, the Fund for Lake Michigan; LNRP allocated funds from its Stewardship Fund, which is supported by the Fund for Lake Michigan and DNR Great Lakes Protection Fund; along with crew services provided by WisCorps (Wisconsin Conservation Corps).
SRBP is a proud partner and supporter of the Friends of North Point and their efforts to improve North Point Bluff.
